Back on the Job: The Return-to-Work and Accommodation Forum

is presented by

HR News Canada HR Law Canada Safety News Canada

The longer someone is off, the harder it is to come back. Every week counts.

Injured and ill employees sit at the intersection of three disciplines: workers' compensation and safety, the duty to accommodate, and the HR work of bringing someone back successfully.

Get it right and a valued employee returns to productive work. Get it wrong and you face a human rights complaint, a compensation appeal or a wrongful dismissal claim, sometimes all three.

Back on the Job covers return to work end to end, from first absence through modified duties to the hard question of when the employment relationship can end.

You'll leave knowing

  • What early intervention changes in the cost and length of an absence
  • Your re-employment obligations under workers' compensation law
  • What medical information you can ask for, and what the employee owes you
  • Where undue hardship begins, and when ending employment is lawful
  • How supervisors can make modified duties work in practice
